Uralic projects
This research targets the relationships across linguistic modules. More specifically, the project focuses on the interface relationships between prosody, lexicon, morphology, syntax, semantics and extralinguistic factors. Previous descriptions of Estonian are typically divided into separate modules. However, there are intermodular phenomena that are problematic for the previous approaches; those phenomena are better captured by an integrated approach to linguistic information across modules. In addition, the development of our large databases and linguistic tools calls for clear solutions addressing the cross-modular phenomena. The research proposal aims at testing and developing the modern cross-modular theoretical approaches against modern Estonian data. The outcome of the project is a fundamental study into several aspects of Estonian and of language structure in general, and the basic data models for complex Estonian language technological applications.
